(it's a ticketed event, we'll post the FB invite soon) And Tracy Weinberg and Friends will be playing at Aquabrew August 3rd 8-10 pm! https://aqua-brew.com/ I perform 2 pieces here: The first one is in F# major. I then leave the stage and return to do a piece in E major. Both of these pieces are created on the spot, improvised, and unplanned for the most part. I have played some of the licks before but the compositions are entirely made up in the moment. Whatever came out is what I did.
Moreover, this is my first bass guitar, solo artist, performance in front of a public audience. Typically solo performances are performed by acoustic singer/songwriter guitarists. But I am a bassist. I did this @ Middleton Brewery's open mic night, Monday, May 7, 2018. In the video, I am playing a 1986 Palmer bass, my first bass guitar acquired at age 16. Over the past 30+ years, I have only maintained it. Otherwise, it is bone-stock except for the strings. To play this bass, purchased new in Marietta, Georgia, in 1986, for this purpose, means a lot to me personally as it marks a long bridge crossing. This bass spans childhood ambitions with adulthood fulfillment of goals. "A Soul Passes to Heaven in the Light and the Living Water," photographic composite + digital illustration. JULIE PREJEANValentine's Day 2024, CJ celebrate 22 years together!
Merry Christmas 2023! When I first heard this song, I couldn't get it out of my head. Brilliantly moving. It's the main theme for the PBS Masterpiece series Unforgotten, a cold case crime drama following London detectives as they uncover the truth. This song reveals our truth completely, our flaws, our disquiet. And I believe the honesty within it is redemptive. A beautiful gift that sustains us. Enjoy it and here's wishing you a radiant Christmas and dazzling New Year!
My amazing granddaughter Scarlett Rose was born May 29, 2019. I was blessed to be with my daughter Tainy during the birth and it forever transformed me. The next day I arrived to see them and Tainy played this song - The Meeting - a beloved song she and I shared since her own birth in 1989, when ABWH released their self-titled album, Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe. As it played, we were both enthralled by Scarlett's attentive gaze. She was listening to the beautiful music. Tainy and I began to cry. This was the first song played for Scarlett after coming into this world! A mother to daughter experience I will forever treasure.
Every year since Scarlett's birth, I've recorded songs and made videos to celebrate her birthdays and Christmases. This Christmas, I chose to record The Meeting to celebrate the majestic intensity my two earthly angels inspire in me. Tainy and Scarlett Rose are the song I've been searching for and their love makes me a song for them. Rock and Roll Halloween! BOO! About to go to School of Rock New Braunfels Halloween party (my fav party) and I needed to record a ROCK song today. With all that's going on in the world system, I know this song hits a lot of people like a ton of bricks. I believe God's not the complicator, we are. However, I understand why we think that's the way of it. And this song exemplifies it perfectly. And it's a DAMN GOOD Halloween song!
October is here! Recorded this yesterday, October Eve, in honor of seeing The Rocky Horror Picture Show with friends and fellow musicians this upcoming Friday the 13th at The Brauntex Theatre in New Braunfels! Beyond excited!
In the late 70's, I started to see Rocky Horror almost every weekend at The Alabama Theater in Houston, which was one of The First 30 US theaters to show The Rocky Horror Picture Show as a weekly, ongoing midnight-only movie on June 11, 1977. And the first time I went, I sat in the balcony, which is where I will be sitting for the upcoming showing. Deja Vu! Tim Curry became another musical inspiration for me. I saw him twice in concert (in Houston and New Orleans) promoting his albums Fearless and Simplicity. Got to say hello to him behind the venue in New Orleans! My mom and I were in heaven! My mom and I also took my teenage daughter to see Rocky Horror Picture Show in Santa Monica, CA. This month she will be seeing it in LA - the tradition lives on! I've sung Touch-A-Touch-A-Touch-A-Touch Me at auditions, performed the Time Warp as Columbia at Warehouse Live in Houston (Thank you Penny Phelan for jumping to the left with me), and seen Rocky Horror hundreds of times in movie theatres! Happy to be doing it AGAIN. I awoke on Wednesday, 7/19/2023, and made a phone call. I didn't know if my BFF Gretchen would answer, but I wanted to wish her a fabulous 60th birthday vocally, sans text. She answered! She is and will ever be one who helped me remember and believe. She is in my soul.
I'd been practicing this song for a long time and when I got home from work - teaching students to sing - I HAD to record it. I didn't really know why I had to but... It's about Brave Dreams and Sowing Seeds and Remembering Our Immortality. It's about Me and Gretchen and all of us. Seed of Memory by Terry Reid, Vocals by Julie Prejean Angel by Fleetwood Mac Covered by Julie Prejean for Sylvia Dell Faulk LeBove Beniot. Sylvia asked me to record her favorite Fleetwood Mac song sometime in 2005 or 2006. It was from the album Tusk. I knew a lot of Fleetwood Mac but I had never heard that song. She said when she heard it, she could hear me singing it. Sylvia was my mother's best friend and my whole life she loved and nurtured me as one of her own. I'm glad I got off my ass, learned it and recorded it for her. My mom and I visited Sylvia in the hospital April 2006. I had the CD I created for her and she was able to listen to it.
I thank God my mom kept a copy or else I wouldn't be posting this recording today, as the original recording has been lost. Sylvia died January 31, 2007. Our families were devastated. Thank you Sylvia for being one of my angels watching over me. I love you and am grateful for you loving me. Since 2023, Julie has been updating her YouTube Channel! Here's a message from her:
In the Chinese horoscope, 2023 is the Year of the Water Rabbit. I am a Water Rabbit! The rabbit is believed to be the luckiest of the 12 animals to be born under and considered a gentle animal that thinks before acting. The Year of the Rabbit represents peaceful and patient energy. In Chinese culture, rabbits represent the moon. Some say it is because the shadows of the moon resemble a rabbit. Others say it is because of the rabbit’s pure characteristics. Rabbits are earnest with everything they do. Because of their empathy and sensitive artistic feelings, people born in the Rabbit year often find creative jobs more attractive. Many are successful in art, music, architecture and literature. The Water element associated with the Year of the Water Rabbit symbolizes fluidity and adaptability. 2023 is a great time to be open to changes, to adjust and solve problems creatively. 2023 is the year to make changes in my musical life. I am updating and organizing my YouTube Channel (@julieprejean) and recording at the Frogville Cabin Studio this year. Stay tuned friends! "Digitally archiving my versatile singing vocation has been quite an experience. Singing backup for my close friend Sara Hickman when she would come to Los Angeles was a unique and much appreciated gift. And I will always fondly remember doing the 1991 Mark and Brian Christmas Show Live at The Palladium. And the band behind us was the 15 piece Mark and Brian House Band which included an amazing who's who of the music industry - Musical Director Scott Page, Bill Champlin, Jim Keltner, Bruce Paulson, Bill Bergman, Dan Sawyer, Lee Sklar, Doc Kupla, Kenny Lewis, Steve Lukather, the late Jeff Porcaro, Lee Thornburg, Steve Madaio, and Bill Page. Wow - what a lineup. How very fortunate I was to be able to jam out in this way!" Special thanks to The Unofficial Mark and Brian Archive
Julie had so much fun singing this montage scene theme song “Jump In The Fire” in the movie Teenage Bonnie & Klepto Clyde (1993).
She had happily worked with composer Terry Plumeri on several soundtracks and this one was a guns blazing adventure! (before this, she was singing ballads and classical pieces he composed) The Bonnie & Clyde story is re-told from a contemporary viewpoint. Clyde in this movie is a high school nerd working in the local burger joint. Urges to steal things are inflamed when he runs into Bonnie, the bored daughter of the local police commissioner, who is running with a street gang led by Kirk. Clyde immediately senses a kindred spirit in Bonnie. Initially she ignores him, but he rescues her from a shop-lifting charge and offers her a ride in a stolen van. Soon the two have taken guns from her father's home and go off on a bloody crime spree... Director: John Shepphird Writers: Steve Jankowski, John Shepphird Stars: Maureen Flannigan, Scott Wolf, Bentley Mitchum Music by: Terry Plumeri For the better part of this year, Julie's been digitally archiving work created by Sparks Off The Wheel.
Sparks Off The Wheel (a network of artists expressing our true selves through the collaborative telling of stories with sounds, words, pictures and movement) started as a family affair headed by Julie's mom, Sara Prejean, and expanded to include many artists of differing genres and styles. Space Girl - A Rock Fantasy was a story that SOTW told in 1995. Conceived and written by Sara & Julie, it revealed the first phase of Julie's life. A fantasy addicted Julie searching for something, anything to affix her life force, stumbling from one thing to the next. Until the light within her (God) was realized and she was set free from fantasy! Enjoy this video. At Whisky a Go Go Hollywood, CA when Sparks Off The Wheel launched SPACE GIRL. Recently, Julie has been digitally archiving work created by Sparks Off The Wheel and it has inspired her to tell this story again in video, because of it’s current (and forever) relevance.
Sparks Off The Wheel (a network of artists expressing our true selves through the collaborative telling of stories with sounds, words, pictures and movement) started as a family affair headed by Julie's mom, Sara Prejean, and expanded to include many artists of differing genres and styles. “So This Is What Happens” was originally produced and recorded in 1992 or 93 at Westlake Audio in Hollywood, CA and was a calling card demo for Sparks Off The Wheel’s artistic vision. Produced by Sara, engineered and mixed by her then son-in-law Chuck Contreras, and sung by her two daughters, Julie Prejean and Kristie Hart - the audio version was a great thrill to complete and “put out there”. Now, because the dialogue within the original audio piece from Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior tells a post-apocalyptic tale that seems eerily timely, Julie decided to create a new video and share it with you.
