Meet Chad
Born December 1969, in Sacramento, California, Chad Glass showed early signs of a talent for drawing. Born into a life of television, Chad’s art director father, Chris Glass, took him along on the weekends to the art department where learning and exploration were encouraged. From ages 3, 4, 5, 6 and beyond, while moving from California, to Massachusetts, to Georgia, then back to California, a life in broadcasting influenced and shaped the way Chad approached his art, cultivating a sense of visual storytelling.
“Everything I’ve learned about storytelling I’ve learned from television storyboarding. Moreover, drawing has been the bridge across nearly every gap in my life,” says Chad. “Since there are only 7 basic stories that anyone could ever tell, it doesn’t matter where one learns to tell these stories as the structures are all the same whether you watch them on t.v. or read them in a book.” Continuing to draw into adulthood, it only made sense he would need to keep doing it as a career: “I am most capable of being an artist in this life. That is really all I could ever do well. I knew it from about age five, an inner knowing. It is a complex gift that both joyfully enriches and brings me great sorrow. My curiosity tends to reveal beauty and very ugly things. But I’m grateful for it. I also write and play music.” In 1999 he moved to Los Angeles from Marietta, Georgia and established a career as a storyboard artist in Hollywood. Today he focuses on drawing, painting and music in serving beauty instead of “industry.” He currently lives in Frogville, a 3 acre homestead in Floresville Texas with his partner Julie. Chad is a freelance audio visual technician (AV Tech) and works for multiple full service audio visual companies specializing in Conferencing, Brand Activations, Concert Production and Installation in Austin and San Antonio. Chad is a founding member of the non-profit Villatopia! Chad played with bands Tracy Weinberg & Friends and Phat Tuba and he is the C part of CJ! |
Meet Julie
After graduating from Houston’s High School for Performing and Visual Arts, getting married and starting her family, Julie moved to Southern California in 1989 and immediately fell in love with her beautiful new hometown…Los Angeles. She traded her hurricane lamps for earthquake preparedness kits and began raising her newborn daughter.
Once her daughter became a little older, Julie began singing professionally in many different capacities:
She then began volunteering with several community organizations, and soon realized she had a knack for leading groups of people. This led to her career of over 20 years in the field of volunteer and community led project management. To date, she has trained and mobilized thousands of volunteers of all ages in hundreds of community led projects on school campuses, streets and parks throughout Los Angeles County. In the late 1990’s, she co-developed a volunteer leadership training which is still being used by a Hands On Network affiliate, L.A. Works. In 2008, Julie joined the staff of the environmental non-profit TreePeople to manage the work of the Forestry Department, a vibrant group of dedicated tree planting and restoration professionals. While at TreePeople, Julie became a trained Council carrier and facilitator at the Ojai Foundation, whose mission is to foster practices that awaken connection with self, others, and the natural world. Her favorite musical gig in L.A. was her monthly hour long lounge set entertaining guests at TreePeople’s Moonlight Hike! Julie and her partner, illustrator and bass player Chad Glass, relocated to Frogville, a 3 acre homestead in Floresville, TX where they are happily living and creating art and music. Julie has sung with the Austin improv band Gretchen’s Disco Plague (It’s Infectious) and San Marcos based band Tracy Weinberg & Friends. She also is a part of Phat Tuba, Lovin' It Lounge Singer and also sings with other local musicians - she enjoys the heck out of it! She is currently a Voice Instructor at School of Rock New Braunfels and holds I'm Gonna Sing Workshops. Julie is a founding Vice-President, Board of Directors of the non-profit Villatopia and she is the J part of CJ - Event Artists! |
Julie can facilitate a Council circle at your event. Council is a sacred circle practice of speaking and listening from the heart. Through compassionate, heartfelt expression and empathic listening, council inspires a non-hierarchical form of deep communication that reveals a group's vision and purpose.
Council draws from multiple cultures, and employs a range of communicative modalities and techniques. By fostering attentive listening, authentic expression and creative spontaneity, Council is used to build positive relationships between participants, as well as neutralize hierarchical dynamics fostered by inequality of status, race, economic stature or other social factors. The Council circle format and process gives participants an opportunity to communicate in ways that can prevent the escalation of opposition and lead to a heightened sense of common purpose and community. |
